A member of the State Duma, Sultan Khamzaev, has put forward a proposal to gradually restrict the hours of alcohol sales in Russia on both weekdays and weekends. The aim of this measure is to reduce alcohol consumption in the country.
Khamzaev suggests starting with limiting the alcohol sales hours to 5 p.m. per day and then further reducing it to 2 p.m. However, specific implementation timelines were not mentioned in the proposal.
Previously, Governor Georgy Filimonov of the Vologda region announced restrictions on alcohol sales during weekdays starting from March 1, 2025. This initiative was implemented at the regional level.
The press secretary of the Head of State, Dmitry Peskov, supported regional authorities' prerogative in setting limitations on alcohol sales in their respective areas. He emphasized that it falls within their jurisdiction.
