Porsche Design has long been synonymous with innovation, both in the automotive and watchmaking worlds. Since the release of their first all-black chronograph in 1972, the brand has consistently pushed boundaries. Their latest creation, the Chronograph 1–F.A.T. 2025 Edition, is no exception. This timepiece not only pays homage to Porsche's rich heritage but also introduces groundbreaking design elements that elevate its functionality.
The new Chronograph 1 features a 40.8mm black titanium carbide case, a signature of Porsche Design. However, the standout feature is its white Super-LumiNova dial, a first for the brand. This luminescent coating ensures readability in complete darkness, making it a practical choice for extreme conditions. The inverted design, with a white dial against a black case, is a nod to the original Chronograph 1 from the 1970s, yet it feels refreshingly modern.
Porsche Design has packed this watch with subtle yet meaningful details. The hour counter features a silhouette of the iconic Porsche 962, while the 6 o’clock subdial discreetly displays "962." Another standout is the F.A.T. International logo under the date window, with the English day display replacing "SAT" and "SUN" with "F.A.T." in bold red. As Porsche puts it, this makes "every weekend a race weekend."
The F.A.T. collaboration adds a layer of motorsport authenticity. Founded in 1928 as a French logistics company, F.A.T. has evolved into a symbol of racing heritage, best known for its iconic Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria. The watch is available on multiple straps, including a matte black titanium bracelet, a white textile strap with the F.A.T. Ice Race badge, and an exclusive violet "F.A.T. Mankei Strap," inspired by the brand’s hospitality venture in the Austrian Alps.
Under the hood, the watch is powered by the Porsche Design WERK 01.240 movement, ensuring precision and reliability. The indices and hands are designed for maximum contrast against the lumed dial, making it ideal for high-speed scenarios—whether you're racing at Le Mans or navigating icy terrains. Priced at $11,500, the Chronograph 1–F.A.T. 2025 Edition is a statement piece for those who appreciate the fusion of design, heritage, and performance.
